2021 Prelim Calendar update

The 2021 Events will be held under appropriate COVID 19 guidelines as permitted by provincial and local authorities and sanctioning bodies. We are planning some mix of a “challenge” event as held in fall 2020, and a typical “race” event. Stay tuned for more details in spring 2021.

We want to thanks all the riders and sponsors for helping us through a very challenging 2020 not-season. The Fall Epic 8 Hour challenge format was a success, but we also hope to return to “normal” events in 2021.

Our preliminary calendar for 2021 is below.
Women’s 4 Hour MTB Relay – June 5 or June 4 to 6
Canadian Championships / Ontario Cup XCO – July 9 to 11
Summer Epic 8 Hour MTB Relay – July 24 or July 22 to 25
Fall Epic 8 Hour MTB Relay – Sept 25 or Sept 22 to 26

The MTB Relay events may run under some modified “challenge” and “race” formats offering both options for riders.

Be safe and have a great fall/winter.

Sept 19 Fall Epic 8 update

There are many questions as to new restrictions imposed by Ontario regarding social gatherings.
The Fall Epic 8 Hour is not considered a social gathering, as it is a solo or team (max 4 riders) riding challenge. There are no new restrictions to riders allowed to be at Hardwood. Please see link for information: https://www.ontario.ca/page/reopening-ontario-stages#gathering-changes
We do want to stress the importance of each person following proper COVID protocol, with mask wearing, hand sanitizing and physical distancing from those outside your social bubble. Solo or Teams are not to bring extra friends or family.
Riders are not to group up on trail and maintain appropriate distance if passing or being passed by other riders.
All riders and support must maintain physical distance from anyone outside their social bubble.
If you are not comfortable attending we understand and support your personal decision.
We will continue to communicate if there are any changes to the situation regarding the Fall Epic 8 Hour.

Fall Epic 8 Hour - stay tuned

Stay tuned for announcement regarding the 2020 Fall Epic 8 Hour!
We have been working on some unique ideas to offer the Fall Epic 8 Hour in September.
Details will be announced early in week of Aug 4th.

June 22 Update

With the continued uncertainty and physical distancing requirements, together with Cycling Canada and Ontario Cycling, we have made the tough decision to cancel the 2020 Canadian Mountain Bike XCO Championships to be hosted at Hardwood Ski & Bike.
Pulse Racing will maintain the hosting rights for 2021 Canadian Mountain Bike XCO Championships, and are looking forward to inviting back all the riders next year!

The Fall Epic 8 Hour is still tentatively on the schedule for Sept 26. We continue to closely watch the situation and will make go/no-go decision in late August.

May 25 event update

Cycling Canada and Ontario Cycling have both confirmed that events up to July 31 are to be cancelled or postponed.

We sadly will cancel the Summer Epic 8 Hour scheduled for July 25th. The health and safety of participants, volunteers and the community as a whole are the main priority for any event. We do not want to facilitate or encourage any kind of congregating or group activity.

Any riders that pre-registered will be contacted regarding refunds.

Be safe, be smart, talk care of each other, and enjoy riding your bike responsibly. See you in 2021!

April 27 Event Update

Due to the Covid19 pandemic, Cycling Canada has recommended that all events up to July 6th be cancelled or postponed.

In cooperation with Cycling Canada, the Canadian XCO Championships scheduled for July 11/12 at Hardwood Ski & Bike will be postponed. We do not feel it would be prudent to maintain the original date for the Championships which would encourage inappropriate riding and training in preparation. The Championships can realistically only occur after 4 to 6 weeks following the return to provincial level racing, to allow athletes and coaches to properly prepare. Return to group activity and racing will be determined by the local, provincial and national health authorities, and we fully support their efforts to minimize the impact of Covid19 and ensure the health and safety of our communities.

The Summer Epic 8 Hour MTB Relay scheduled for July 25, will remain on the calendar until we get further updates and recommendations from authorities. We expect a decision before the end of May.  If interested in this event, please save the date, but we do not recommend registering until more information is available.

We would like to give a shout out and appreciation to Trek and Trek Bicycle Stores of Barrie and Aurora for their continued support through all this uncertainty.

Glenn Meeuwisse
Pulse Racing Inc.

Womens 4 Hour - Cancelled

We are very sorry to have to cancel the 2020 edition of the Women’s 4 Hour MTB Relay originally scheduled for June 6th.

We fully support the directive from Cycling Canada and Ontario Cycling Association to cancel or postpone all events up to June 15.

The health and safety of riders, volunteers, staff and community is the highest priority right now. We are all passionate riders but cannot encourage any travel, group riding or potentially adding stress to the medical system.

The Women’s 4 Hour will return in 2021. Stay safe and we hope to see you next year.

COVID19 Update

We are taking the COVID19 situation seriously and want the ensure the health and safety of all participants, volunteers, staff and their families.
We will follow the recommendations of local and provincial health authorities and sanctioning bodies.
At this point the situation is changing quickly making it difficult to make concrete decisions. We will make decisions on delay or cancellation of events at minimum 4 weeks before any event, to allow for registration and travel plans to be arranged or changed.
If you are planning to attend an event on our calendar, we advise you to hold the date but not register at this point.
If you are already registered, we will advise on delay or cancellation and options of transfer or refund of entry.

Epic 8 Hour course marked and open for preview July 8th.
This years’ 10km course will be amazing. It starts with one climb to get you to “the ridge” and from there is fast, flowy and FUN!!!. The course ends with a 1km ripping downhill, so everyone feels like a hero at the end,

We look forward to an awesome summer day of fun and great riding.

Why an Epic 8?? The Epic 8 Hour Relay is all about the camaraderie, sportsmanship and the gritty, hard-core enjoyment of riding with friends. The Epic 8 Hour relay is a personal and team challenge to complete as many laps as possible from 10 am to 6 pm. Many riders prefer the 8 hour format for a solo challenge, but the majority of riders still enjoy the mix of fun, fast riding and the competitive (or not so competitive), social team atmosphere. Whether riding just for fun, or vying for a podium spot in your category, the Epic 8 Hour will be a memorable experience!

We want you to join in the Reggae theme with Roots, Rocks and Reggae. Create your own Reggae riding and casual outfit and pit areas.

Online Entry Deadline

Less than 24hrs to pre-register online for the Trek Store Canada Cup/Ontario Cup and save $$. Onsite entry is available up to 1 hr before the start, but please don’t wait this long! It will also cost a fair bit more.

CANADA CUP CELEBRATES 25 YEARS OF RUGGED COMPETITION
Epic season ahead hitting all of Canada’s top mountain bike spots

(Ottawa, ON – April 27, 2015) The Canada Cup – Canada’s premier Mountain Bike series – returns in 2015 for the 25th edition.

Mountain bikers hailing from all regions of Canada will sweat it out elbow-to-elbow in the country’s most rugged regions facing stiff competitors, weather and challenging dirt trails, with the hopes to be crowned Canada Cup Champions as the series comes to an epic end in Whistler, BC during the coveted Crankworx World Tour.

The long-lasting series has been the foundation of Canada’s mountain bike development system throughout its quarter-century history. Countless Olympic and World Championship team members have advanced through its ranks.

Mont-Tremblant (QC) will kick off the series with both cross-country and downhill races. Riders will face new course designs in both disciplines, making the most of the spectator-friendly village at the base of the mountain. The event, to take place May 17-18, is renowned for its tenacity has been presented for the last 21 years, the oldest nationally-sanctioned mountain bike race in the country. A revised Sunday-Monday race schedule will benefit riders with increased practice time in both cross-country and downhill.

Horseshoe Valley (ON), located just minutes from the renowned Hardwood Hills where the 2015 Pan-Am Games will take place, will welcome the cross-country riders for the series’ second stop. Alongside Hardwood Ski and Bike, aspiring Olympic champions will have access to back-to-back weekend racing, with week-long cycling activities following the big day of racing. Those in attendance will get a sneak peak at some of the same single-track to be used for the 2015 Canadian Mountain Bike Marathon Championships to take place this fall.

Cross-country specialists won’t travel far for the third leg of the series, with Hardwood Ski and Bike (ON) hosting week-long cycling activities leading into the Trek Store Canada Cup #3. The event minutes away from Horseshoe Valley features a Tuesday Fun Ride and Social, a Wednesday Midweek race and an Eliminator race on Thursday. A large international crowd is expected with a last chance for riders to preview the official course to be used at the Pan-Am Games later in the summer.

Baie-St-Paul (QC) remains on the Canada Cup calendar for 2015, allowing the organizer to fine-tune any last details prior to hosting the 2016 Canadian Mountain Bike XCO Championships. The course in the beautiful Charlevoix region boasts a proven track record of nationally and provincially-sanctioned events. This race will also be a fantastic opportunity for riders to warm-up for the Canadian Championships, taking place the following weekend.

Finally, Whistler Mountain (BC) will welcome Canada’s best riders for both cross-country and downhill in the big finale. The Canadian Open DH is excited to welcomes iXS as its new presenting sponsor. As a part of the Crankworx World Tour, Whistler will welcome some of the world’s top mountain bikers from all disciplines, promising stiff competition across the board.
